Fortunately, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) offers a simple, fast, and cost-effective way to obtain certification by formalising your extensive experience.

Can RPL help with trade recognition?

If you’ve spent years perfecting your craft and gaining practical experience in your chosen industry, you may be wondering if all that hard work can lead to official recognition. The good news is that RPL provides a pathway to acknowledge and validate the skills and knowledge you’ve acquired through hands-on experience. Introduced by the government in the 1990s, RPL offers a powerful opportunity to get nationally recognised qualifications without the need for unnecessary and time-consuming formal study.

Through RPL, your extensive expertise can be assessed and recognised, paving the way for a smoother and more streamlined trade recognition process. Rather than starting from scratch, RPL allows you to showcase your competence and skills, proving that you’re already equipped with the required knowledge to excel in your field.

By choosing RPL as the route to trade recognition, you eliminate the need to repeat training you’ve already mastered. This not only saves you valuable time but also spares you the expense associated with redundant courses. Instead, you focus on compiling evidence that showcases your practical capabilities, work samples, and project reports that demonstrate your abilities in action.

Whether you’re a seasoned professional looking to advance in your career or a skilled worker eager to obtain the recognition you deserve, RPL empowers you to leverage your experience and expertise to the fullest.

Step 2 – Portfolio of Experience

Your dedicated consultant will assist you in creating a portfolio of evidence that showcases your skills and knowledge. More on this below.

Step 3 – Evidence Review

Once one of our partner Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) evaluates your portfolio, the assessor assigned to your case may request additional evidence if needed. In case you have any areas that require improvement, the RTO may offer upskilling by assigning a trainer at no extra cost.

Step 4 – You’re Qualified Skills

We have collaborated with reputable RTOs, ensuring that the qualifications you receive through RPL are nationally recognised in Australia. These qualifications hold the same value as those obtained through full-time study and can be advantageous for licensing and immigration purposes.

Evidence Required

When assembling your portfolio for trade recognition through RPL, focus on gathering the following types of evidence:

Work Samples

Include examples of your work that demonstrate your skills and competency in your trade.

Project Reports

Showcase projects you have completed, highlighting your problem-solving abilities and project management skills.

Reference Letters

Obtain letters from supervisors, employers, or clients attesting to your expertise and performance on the job.

Certifications and Licences

Include any relevant certifications or licences you have obtained throughout your career.

Training and Workshop Attendance
