According to the 2019 GlobalData research Construction in Australia – Key Trends and Opportunities by State and Territory to 2023, the decline was the result of a lull in major energy projects and the rapid expansion in residential development in the years running up to 2017. The subsequent oversupply of residential properties negatively impacted the growth and opportunity in the residential construction sector from 2017 to 2019.

The good news is the same research predicted steady improvements in the industry from 2019 to 2023. If you’re in the industry and looking for the next step in your career, or if you’re looking to enter the industry, it’s wise to look ahead at what roles and career paths are offering the most growth.
