NSW Mauls Maroons In Origin 2 | In The News

24th June 2019

The fifty-nine thousand football fanatics who filled Optus Stadium in Perth last night saw New South Wales show no mercy as they delivered a thrashing to their opponents during the second game of the 2019 State of Origin series.

After Queensland’s fairytale comeback in the series opener, fans had high hopes that history would repeat. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be, as the Blues powered through the entire eighty minutes to a 32 point win, dominating Queensland and levelling the series.

Queensland coach, Kevin Walters, didn’t try to hide his extreme frustration, sharing some colourful language during the post-match press conference. “Origin’s won on attitude and effort, and we didn’t match them in any areas there tonight.”

While it was a team effort from New South Wales to produce the final score of 38-6, there were some men who pushed particularly hard in pursuit of a win. In fact, two of the most exhilarating players of the night were both absent from game one.

James Maloney missed the series opener but made his mark during game two, setting up two tries and kicking five goals. However, the real scene stealer was centre Tom Trbojevic, who, after missing game one due to a hamstring injury, performed the first NSW hat-trick since 2005.

The historic moment was made even more so with the record Optus Stadium crowd of 59,721 witnessing the first ever Origin game to be played in Western Australia.

The series decider will be held at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on July 10th.
