Certificate III in Construction Waterproofing (CPC31420) meets the needs of workers who undertake waterproofing work for residential and commercial buildings. It includes work with membranes and special coatings to protect the structure and contents of buildings from water ingress.

To achieve the Certificate 3 in construction waterproofing, you must show competency in 19 units of competency: 14 core units and 5 elective units.

There are no formal entry prerequisites for the qualification. However, many RTOs expect applicants to have:

Prior waterproofing-related work experience
A valid general construction induction (White Card)
Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

How long does a waterproofing certificate last?

The CPC31420 qualification does not expire once awarded. However, for licensing or registration purposes, some states may require recency of experience or renewal of proof of competence (especially for waterproofing contractor licences). White Card / general induction training also needs periodic renewal (depending on the state).

Who can issue a waterproofing certificate?

Only a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) authorised to deliver CPC31420 (or equivalent) under the national training package can issue this waterproofing certificate. For licensing, you may also need recognition from your state’s Fair Trading or Building Commission authority depending on local regulations.

Is a licence required after getting Certificate III in waterproofing?

In many states, yes—you’ll need a contractor licence or registration to legally carry out waterproofing work in commercial or large residential jobs. The Cert III is typically a prerequisite for that licence.
