How To Get A Plumbing License In QLD

Always in demand, becoming a plumber is one of the most intelligent decisions a tradesperson could make. To ensure that workers across the state and the industry are delivering the best work in the safest possible manner, all plumbers operating in Queensland are required to hold a license granted by the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC).

Skills Certified has extensive experience helpingupskilling professionals. We’ve put together this short guide, helping you get started in your field.

Recognising your hard work

A core requirement of any plumbing license granted by the QBCC is that the individual holds either of two recognised qualifications from a TAFE or vocational training institution. Trainees must hold either the Certificate III in Plumbing CPC32413 or Certificate III in Plumbing (Mechanical Services) (with sanitary stream completed) CPC32513, plus eight units of competency from the Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services CPC40912. You’ll then be required to submit documentation showing that you hold the qualification, as well as providing financial information proving you meet the minimum financial requirements.

Acquiring a plumbing license in QLD is complex, and requires a significant outlay of time and money by an individual just starting out. If you’ve already got some experience as a plumber or in an adjacent industry, you could be eligible to receive your qualification under a recognition of prior learning program that takes into account your existing knowledge. You’ll work with assessors who will be able to make a judgement on whether or not you’ve satisfied the requirements of the Certificate, recommending units of competency where required to ensure that the gaps in your knowledge are completely filled. You’ll be granted the same qualification as if you’d gone through the entire program without spending months and thousands of dollars on education.
