The Certificate III in Fitness provides the skills and knowledge instructors require to function within the fitness industry. Depending on the specialisation chosen, the qualification provides a work outcome for gym, aqua or group exercise instruction. The instructor will typically work independently with a high level of autonomy, in a controlled environment ranging from community or aquatic centre to fitness or leisure club that has is being managed through hazard control processes and pre-existing risk assessments. Aqua exercise instructors provide water-based exercise sessions for group participation, including circuit, pre-choreographed or freestyle. Lifesaving and rescue skills are included in the qualification, and the individual requires the appropriate level of endurance and pool deck fitness. Instructors specialising in Group exercise instruction provide circuit, pre-choreographed or freestyle sessions aimed at group attendance by clients of mixed fitness and age levels. The instructor will demponstrate exercise sessions to groups, requiring limited individual interaction. Instructors specialising in Gym instruction provide private client assessments and create tailored fitness instruction and technique correction as needed. They develop and demonstrate programs, and provide supervision, maintain the equipment and handle inquiries.
