In my mid-thirties, I decided it was time for a career change. Up to that point I had been in the services (army and police) and decided to try something different. I had picked up a lot of practical skills over the years and wanted to convert those to a qualification that could give more opportunities and expand my potential.
I had used Recognition of Prior Learning for diploma modules in the past so looked online for a provider and found Skills Certified Australia. I had previously worked as a carpenter for a year in the UK and after a conversation with Sinead I found out that I would be able to get my Certificate III in Carpentry via Recognition of Prior Learning. Sinead was easy to talk to and explained the whole process to me in very simple terms. It was easy and once I had submitted all my evidence it only took about ten days to get my qualification.
If you feel that recognition of prior learning is for you then I highly recommend Skills Certified Australia. If I could offer you one piece of advice it would be to get your evidence together as quickly as possible. In my experience, getting this together is the only thing that will hold up the process.
